Expo – blue heaven
In this new exhibition, ‘Blue Heaven’, a fresh portrait of Piet Stockmans is presented. His granddaughter Finne Claesen selected the works. Piet Stockmans has been working with porcelain for over 60 years. The material has been the common blue line throughout his life. He has transformed porcelain from a dusty material into a medium for innovative expression through his progressive approach to clay.
Special attention is given to his industrial designs, which were primarily created for Mosa Maastricht, where he served as head designer for 26 years. After leaving Mosa in 1995, he became an independent designer and worked on a freelance basis.
Another major theme in the exhibition is his autonomous work. Stockmans’ artworks are held in the collections of renowned museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He received numerous awards, including the State Prize for Visual Arts in 1988. In 1995, he was Cultural Ambassador of Flanders.
For the exhibition, Finne, his granddaughter, delved into his archive and discovered, among other things, artworks that he had not shown over the past 30 years. Recently graduated as an interior architect, she gives the works the space they deserve.
The exhibition runs until December 2027.
